“What length should I go for?”
“Should I have layers?”
“Would I suit a fringe?”

These are just some of the questions we find ourselves asking when trying to find the ideal hair style.

While there is no right or wrong answer (hey, we’re free to do whatever makes us happy, right?), there are a few things to consider. In this blog we’re going to take you through some of the basics of finding the ideal haircut to suit you, according to your face shape.

First off, we need to have a good clear look at your face. This is easiest to do by pulling or tying your hair back and looking into a bright well lit mirror. What determines your face shape is where your features are most prominent. Cheek bones, forehead or jawline are the three main factors in decoding your face shape.

It’s all about balance, and the oval face shape is considered the most beautiful because of the symmetry and all round balance. There are no specific prominent features and almost every hair style can look incredible on an oval face shape.

As you would expect, a round face shape is noticeably more rounded, this could be the hairline, the chin area or perhaps a wider cheekbone area. With this shape if you are looking to achieve a more balanced look by taking it back to that more oval shape, avoiding a hairstyle that has lots of volume at the sides may be a good route to go down. Styles that lay flatter against the face can help to soften the roundness. Similarly, styles with more height can help to lengthen the overall picture

The most prominent feature is often the jawline or the hairline. Strong and sharp are words that come to mind here. While this look can give the feeling of a very strong personality, it’s also possible to soften this look with longer styles where hair can sit in front of the ears or in the case of the hairline, sweeping fringes or curtain bangs (we’re talking all American now) are an ideal way to off set the squareness.

The triangle and heart shape face shape is wider on the top and narrower at the chin. As a rule of thumb, anywhere you have a lack of volume, you probably want to add volume with your hairstyle. Styles that give extra width at the neck can be flattering and again sweeping fringes can help to narrow the width at the top to take you towards an overall more oval shape.

CHEEKBONES!! or at least this is what stands out most. A narrower forehead and chin area are the hallmarks of a diamond shaped face.
Adding volume with styles that add mass around the chin area and less so at the mid area help to balance the shape. Long fringes that sit around the cheeck bone area may be best lifted a bit higher to create softer side fringes so give more width here.
